Maggie: Mommy, will Santa bring me a Skipper doll?
Me: Well you know, Santa doesn’t exist.
Maggie: Oh…
Me: But the Spirit of Santa is real.
Maggie: What is the Spirit of Santa?
Me: The Spirit of
Santa is in the giving of things to those who are in need, giving them what they
need most. It’s also in the loving we
feel at Christmas time, when we try our hardest to make each other happy. That’s what the Spirit of Santa is.
Maggie: …so will the Spirit of Santa bring me a
Skipper doll? Sigh....So much for trying to teach my daughter about altruism.
